Lot Essay

This chandelier perfectly exemplifies the type of forms being promoted from the 1850s onward in England, spreading the revival of Gothic forms that had taken root in France from the turn of the 19th century.
John Hardman of Birmingham was the chief metalwork manufacturer for the Houses of Parliament in London where some of the most important such examples still hang.
