Lot Essay

Pierre Forget, maître in 1755.

Established in the rue de Charonne, Pierre Forget was a productive fabricant de sièges, and the inventory made after his death recorded no less than 400 chairs, but also tables and beds at his studio. A related canapé by Pierre Forget was sold anonymously at Drouot, Paris, Etude Jean-Louis Picard, 17 April 1996, lot 183, and another almost identical canapé stamped Forget was sold anonymously at Drouot, Paris, Etude Couturier Nicolay, 14 June 1995, lot 148.
