Designed and built by J.S. White at Cowes in 1875, the two-masted schooner Aphrodite was registerd at 134 tons and measured 110 feet in length with a 22 foot beam. Owned successively by Sir R.L.M. Williams Bulkeley, 11th Bart. and his son the 12th Bart., both notable yachtsmen of the late-Victorian era, by 1909 she was owned by G. Clunies-Ross although she had disappeared from record by the time the Great War broke out in 1914.
