Lot Essay
The steel screw schooner Evona was designed by the great G.L. Watson and built at Troon by the Ailsa Ship Building Company in 1897. Originally registered at 515 tons gross (229½ net) and measuring 184 feet in length with a 25 foot beam, she was lengthened by 20¼ feet in 1903 by Camper & Nicholson at Gosport. Powered by a triple-expansion 3-cylinder engine by Denny & Co. of Dumbarton, she disappears from Lloyd's Yacht Registers before 1914 and does not appear to have seen any war service despite her obvious suitability.
