Chancery 2o (276 x 209 mm). Collation: [1-410] (1/1r text, 4/9v colophon, 4/10 blank). 39 leaves (of 40, without the final blank). 37 lines (35 lines on 2/4v), double column. Type: 2:115G. Three- and four-line initial spaces. Rubricated with red Lombard initials, capital strokes and underlines. (Printing flaw to 3/2v with four lines lightly inked, 4/1 strengthened at inner margin with closed tears in blank margins, a few smudges). 19th-century mottled sheep (worn).

FIRST EDITION of Pope Gregory the Great's commentary on the Song of Songs. There were only three incunable editions of this text; the other two were published in 1486 (Goff G-395) and 1498/99 (Goff G-396). The present edition is dated from an inscription in the Uppsala copy.
