AN AUSTRIAN ROCOCO ENAMELLED GOLD SNUFF-BOX
probably Vienna, circa 1770/1780, the enamels in the manner of Philipp Ernst Schindler (1723-1810), struck with later French control marks
Oval box, the slightly domed cover enamelled with a scene after La lecture de la bible by Greuze, the sides enamelled with peasant families at domestic pastimes, the base enamelled with a Rococo lady and gentleman in a Salon interior playing with their five pug dogs, the gold mounts engraved with zig-zag bands forming chevrons
