bearing marks resembling to the Paris date letter of 1778/1779, the charge and discharge marks of Jean-Baptiste Fouache, his mark for old works and his countermark 1783-1788 and a later French control mark
Oval box, the cover, sides and base inlaid with panels of shimmering mother-of-pearl set with foliate gold rosettes, the cover centred with an oval enamel plaque depicting the embarkment of Theogenes and Chariclea, within a laurel mount, the frosted two-colour gold borders cast with laurel garlands interspersed with rosettes, the four side dividers as mother-of-pearl columns with gold flutes hung with laurel swags
