by François Joanin, marked, Geneva, circa 1800, with prestige marks
Rectangular box with rounded corners, the centre of the cover enamelled en plein with a rectangular enamel depicting Agrippina, widow of the Roman general Germanicus, holding the urn containing her husband's ashes, accompanied by her two children, arriving from Syria in Brindisi, painted on a matted gold ground scattered with quatrefoils, flanked by white enamel panels painted with urns in brown sepia, the base and sides similarly flanked and containing a gold panel engraved with vermiculé

According to an old Latin inscription engraved at the inside of the lid, given by Tsar Alexander of Russia to Alexis Waker on 16 January 1804 ('Ab Augustissimo Imperatore Alexandro 1. Consiliario Aulico Alexio Waker Ao 1804 Januarii 16 Die').
