A pair of Yoshitsune gote, the sleeves of the usual form, large black lacquered leather plates over hand, fore and upper arms each overlaid with gilded copper plates, those on the hand with a mon, the main plates joined by mail and mounted on green brocade, late 18th century; a pair of ko-sode [small shoulder guards] in iron kiritsuke kozane laced with dark blue kebiki odoshi with hishinui in green and white lined with blue hemp cloth, late 18th Century; another pair of ko-sode of black and gold lacquered leather hon-kozane laced with bands of white, blue and red kebiki odoshi, the cap plate with three hasso kanamono, late 16th/early 17th century; a pair of gold lacquered leather kawara haidate [thigh-guard] on green and gold brocade, mid or late 18th century; and a pair of leather Iyo-zane haidate lacquered red with a gold sun on blue hemp and a pair of gold lacquered iron Shino suneate, mid or late 18th century

Lot Essay

Yoshitsune gote are modelled on the original mid 14th century pair preserved in the Kasuga Shrine, Nara traditionally associated with Minamoto Yoshitsune and usually worn with o-yoroi or an expensive do-maru.
