TWO YARI [SPEAR] AND TWO BLOW PIPES
Edo Period (18th/19th century)
A su-yari [simple spear] decorated on the upper third with banded red lacquer and the rest of the shaft of plain wood with a simple blade and a cylindrical scabbard in textured red lacquer; another su-yari similarly mounted with ribbed black lacquer and the rest of the shaft of plain oak, a simple blade and a black textured lacquer scabbard with a slight taper; a slim and long blow pipe possibly of cane and lacquer, and another of wood and hexagonal section, both with large mouth pieces, some old damage
The yari 112in. (284.5cm.) and 94in. (239cm.) high respectively; the blow pipes 87¼in. (222cm.) and 75½in. (192cm.) high (4)
