Late Muromachi Period (Late 14th/Early 15th Century)
The russet-iron mask in three sections, boldly yet simply forged with large eye-holes and a small toothless mouth in the style called ubaho [old woman face], the nose removable by turning pins, the brow-plate held by leather ties, a yadome [standing flange] on either cheek and two otayori no kugi [pegs beneath the chin], the interior red-lacquered; contained in a black-lacquered wood box
