PIERRE BONNARD (1867-1947)
One-page autograph letter in French, signed 'Bonnard', n.p., n.d. [June 1934?], 8°, to Francois Dolbeau, pleased to see his success in the newspapers. He has seen the 'Salon d'automne' in Paris and his correspondents poster projects, and comments 'C'était une composition écrite avec beaucoup de décision et evidemment frappante'. Dolbeau would have to use a more flexible form for more attractive subjects; in every case 'l'écriture limpide' is the most important quality. A postscript suggests he cast his eye over the 18th-century (creased on folds, glue staining at top edge), with original envelope.
