A NANBAN tsuba, AN IRON tsuba BY GENBINSAI AND TWO OTHERS
Edo period (18th/19th century)
A circular iron nanban tsuba, seemingly of silver-over-brass nunome zogan, the face with two shishi and scrolling vines and the reverse with four of the takaramono, within a similar border, 9.2cm; a rounded square tsuba with a raised seppadai, the face with a rain dragon and the reverse with gold inlaid spray over waves, signed Genbinsai, probably school of Funada Ikkin, 7.95cm., a tsuba in the form of two opposed crayfish, signed Echizen no ju Kinai saku, 7.2cm.; and another in the style of Unno Shomin, decorated with a tiger emerging from a raging storm, carved in relief, details inlaid in silver, shibuichi and gold, signed Suifu shi Keimei (Keimei - a worker of Mito), 8.4cm.
