A SHIBUICHI TSUBA BY HORYUSAI MITSUAKI, A TSUBA BY UCHIKOSHI HIROCHIKA, AND FOUR OTHERS

A pale shibuichi tsuba carved with two shishi beside peonies and rocks by a stream, the shishi on the face and the stream, signed Horyusai Mitsuaki, 6.95cm.; an oval shibuichi tsuba carved with the sennin Chinnan conjuring up a dragon from his begging bowl, to the great delight of a Chinese boy, some details gilt, with signature Sekijoken Motozane hachijussai [80 years of age], 6.6cm.; a circular pale shibuichi tsuba carved and inlaid with a fox and a badger under the moon, the inlays in silver, copper and two colours of gold, signed Shiunsai Hirochika, 6.95cm.; an oval shibuichi tsuba carved with bamboo, signed Kokutei no ju shita Nagamine and inscribed Kokutei [Crane Pavilion], 7.6cm.; and a large iron tsuba pierced with 'boars' eyes' and gourd-shapes, with signature Yamakichi(bei), 8.9cm.; and an oval shibuichi tsuba carved and pierced with a dragon rising from the sea through driving rain, with gilt details and inlaid gold spots for the sea spray, with signature Yanagawa Naomasa, 7.5cm.
