A KENJO TSUBA AND EIGHT OTHERS
Edo period (18th/19th century)
A mokko tsuba densely decorated in Kenjo style with silver and gold nunome-zogan with a long bridge and a temple complex beside a lake, signed with a gold kao, 7.35cm.; an iron mokko-shaped tsuba, well carved and pierced with two dragons, Ichiryu school of Mito, 7.25cm.; a rounded square tsuba, carved with a huge cannon on a gun carriage, the reverse with the blades of polearms visible over the top of a camp curtain bearing, signed Joshu Nishijin no ju Umetada Shigeyoshi, 6.9cm.; a hexagonal iron tsuba, carved and pierced with gourd vines, 6.6cm.; a Higo style Bushu tsuba carved and pierced with a plum tree which forms the rim, a bird perching on a twig, 7cm.; a circular Kyo sukashi tsuba pierced with a pair of stirrups and a tree, 8cm.; an almost circular iron Choshu tsuba pierced and carved with a ho-o and a kirin beside a pine tree, with details in gold nunome-zogan, signed Choshu no ju Bokuchu, 7.35cm.; an iron tsuba with a rim in the shape of bamboo, inlaid with an egret perching on the prow of a boat, 8.5cm.; and a circular iron nanban tsuba with a beaded rim, pierced and carved with opposed dragons, a loose tama between their heads, 8.4cm.
