A KAMAKURA TSUBA, A KASHIRA-GATA TSUBA AND FOUR OTHERS
Muromachi/Edo period (circa 1500/19th century)
A Kamakura tsuba of tachi-mokko shape, carved in low relief with cloves, plum blossoms, and jewels and pierced with flower forms and rings, with two forging flaws in the plate, 8.3cm.; an iron kashira-gata tsuba, a strand of the hair between the teeth inlaid in silver, 8.2cm.; a circular iron tsuba carved and inaid with Raiden beating his thunder drum on a cloud, signed Nakagawa Yoshiharu, with a kao, 6.9cm.; a well carved iron tsuba carved in the form of a gourd, 7.8cm.; an aoi-shaped tsuba carved and inlaid to represent the plates of a helmet,the back plate surmounted with a cartouche inscribed Hachiman dai bosatsu, 9.1cm.; and an otafuku-mokko shaped tsuba with four boar's eye piercings and inlaid with cherry blossoms in various metals, 8.4cm.
