A COPPER TSUBA WITH SHIPPO INLAY AND ANOTHER
Edo period (18th/19th century)
A mokko-shaped copper tsuba inlaid with cloisonné enamel medallion inlays, on the face in the form of a shishi, a badger seal and Daikoku's mallet and on the reverse, a folded paper and a shogi [Japanese chess] piece, 7.1cm.; and a large sentoku migaki-ji tsuba inlaid in copper, silver, shakudo, gold and shibuichi hirazogan with, on the face, the Weaving Princess at work on her loom amid flying spools, clouds and lotus petals and on the reverse with Daikoku watching tama [sacred jewel], floating down a stream past rocks on which are standing pine saplings and bamboo, with the moon and clouds overhead, 8.1cm.
