A KOZUKA BY SHIGETSUNE, A KAGA-ZOGAN KOZUKA AND EIGHT OTHERS
Edo period (18th-19th century)
A shibuichi kozuka carved and inlaid with the figures of Taira Tadamori the 'oil thief', signed Jikiosai Shigetsune; a Kaga-zogan kozuka with three pairs of patterned bands; an iron kozuka carved and inlaid with a servant, wearing a sword and carrying a fish on a string, a hawk hovering above him; another iron kozuka carved and inlaid in shakudo and gold with a deer and a stag under the moon; an iron kozuka carved with the figure of a scholar, probably the poet Rihaku (the famous Chinese poet Li Bai), holding a handscroll, a poem engraved on the reverse of the kozuka, with signature Naoyuki; a sentoku kozuka carved and inlaid in copper, silver and gold with Moso walking through snow carrying two bamboo shoots for his sick mother, with signature on the side Naonobu; an iron kozuka carved and inlaid with Toba Sojo riding into exile in Hainan, with signature Hamano Noriyuki and a kao; an iron kozuka carved and inlaid with a dragon and waves; a lacquered copper, gilt and silver-gilt kozuka with Fudo, rosary beads, and a vajra-shaped kashira; and a pressing with cranes, with signature Somin (10)
