Lot Essay

Fumio (1869-1941) was a pupil of Kano Natsuo and was also the 3rd generation Sekibun. The newt symbolizes summer, and Fumio was copying the first Sekibun who made several tsuba with this design. See Wakayama, Toso Kodogu Koza, vol. 6 (Tokyo, 1973), pl. 9.
