A LATE KOTO BIZEN KATANA AND A WAKIZASHI
The first blade, honzukuri, iorimune, koshizori with o-gissaki, coarse itame-mokumehada with ji-nie, gunome-midare hamon of nie with sunagashi, o-maru boshi with hakkikake, bo-hi both sides, ubu nakago, mei: Bishu Osafune Yukimitsu and dated Tensho 2 [1574], 24in. (61.1cm), in its dark green lacquer saya decorated with black karakusa, yamagane nanako fuchi-kashira decorated with seashells, copper menuki depicting fruit, shakudo ishimeji tsuba, 19th century; and a wakizashi, the blade hirazukuri, iorimune, toriizori, gunome-midare hamon, a short broad groove on the omote, the ura with gomabashi, the blade is completely obscured, ubu nakago, mei: Izumo no kuni no ju Kanetsune, 193/8in. (49.2cm), 17th century, in its textured reddish brown lacquer saya, silvered fuchi-kashira, iron tsuba carved with a mountain above waves, with a Kaneie signature, shakudo and gilt menuki of baskets in a stream, 19th century (2)
