Lot Essay

The vessel shows no typical cord-marking patterns, but instead a circular geometric design against a background of striped pattern, created by a wide toothed instrument, as a middle band on the otherwise plain body. The contrast between the dynamic decoration band and the plain body suggests a date in the Final Jomon period, probably with incipient Yayoi cultural influence.

The result of Oxford Authentication Ltd thermoluminescence test, no. N100e93, is consistent with the dating of this lot.
