A KOGO [INCENSE BOX]
Unsigned, Edo period (17th century)
Of the usual form with rounded corners and a flush-fitting lid resting on rims, the dense nashiji ground decorated in gold hiramaki-e and lead with silver flakes with scattered plum blossom and a stylised pine and bamboo laden down with snow, the interior with pine, bamboo and plum, the base black- lacquered with sparse gold flakes (some inlay lifting), with fitted box and an inscription recorded that it was received as a gift in Kaei 6 [1853]
