A THREE-CASE INRO
Unsigned, Edo Period (18th Century)
Carved red lacquer; compartments, risers, shoulders and rims black lacquer; the bottom compartment with a small separate container; carved red lacquer oijme with Daruma meditating and the dilapidated wall of his hut; black and red lacquer box-netsuke with two inner compartments, one side with a sennin holding a scroll, the other with a tiger and clouds

On one side a Chinese scholar and attendant in a room overlooking a garden, reading a scroll; on the other another scholar, also with an attendant, playing a flute
