A pair of Imari dishes
Edo Period (early 18th Century)
Decorated in iron-red, green, aubergine and black enamels and gilt on underglaze blue, with a courtesan, her attendant holding a parasol and three strutting birds to the centre, surrounded by a band of flowerheads, the rim with panels of birds and courtesans on a geometric pattern, the reverse with a band of insects, gilt rim
Each approx. 91/8in. (23.2cm.) diam. (2)
