The present bronze is a rare large-sized cast of a model dating from the 1830s and listed in Barye's first catalogue of 1st September 1847 as Levrette debout ramassant un lièvre. With its detailed modelling of every muscle and sinew of the greyhound, the group demonstrates perfectly Barye's intimate understanding of animal anatomy.
