1935 LAGONDA RAPIER TWO SEATER ROAD/RACING SPECIAL

Engine: 1500cc, four cylinder, double overhead camshafts driven by chains, twin SU carburettors; Gearbox: four speed manual and reverse; Brakes: mechanically operated drums all round; Suspension: semi-elliptic leaf springs with Andre-Hartford shock absorbers, knock-on wire wheels with Avon tyres. Right hand drive.

This two seater Rapier special has a similar history to the single seater (see previous Lot) having been in James Crocker's possession for many years (during which time it had been extensively used in V.S.C.C. events) and having originated from an Abbott bodied tourer. However, unlike the single seater, it has retained a double overhead camshaft Rapier engine - albeit one that has been enlarged to 1500cc through the fitting of a new block supplied by the Rapier Register. This modification has much improved the power and performance of the car and a modified oil system and modern filter have also been fitted.

After an accident at Oulton Park in 1966, the car was rebuilt using a different Rapier chassis. The attractive pointed tail, two seater bodywork was built to a high standard by the late Peter Hunt, who was also responsible for the mechanical rebuild. During recent years the car has been maintained for the owner by Peter Ward of Redhill.

It is finished in dark blue with a black leather covered bench seat, twin aeroscreens and full road equipment.

A well known and powerful pre-war two seat sports car, ideal for Vintage Sports-Car Club events.
