A Meissen Kauffahrteiszenen tea service
Circa 1740, with underglaze blue crossed swords mark; the slop bowl, teacaddy, teapot and sugar bowl with iron red E.; one cup with iron red B.; the milk jug with iron red A., five saucers with iron red Lit:A, and one saucer with Lit.B.
Painted in colours with merchants at various pursuits near barrels and bales on estuary quaysides, within a double red-line band and with gilt line rims, comprising:
a bullet-shaped teapot with bracket handle and moulded spout, the matched cover with flower finial (minute rim chips; two small firing cracks; the finial damaged) (11.5 cm., 4 1/2 in. high);
a baluster milk jug with bracket handle (spout cracked) (11.5 cm., 4 1/2 in. high);
a rectangular teacaddy with puce decoration on the shoulders and a slightly domed cover with flower finial (the cover damaged and restored)
a sugar bowl and slightly domed cover with flower finial (the cover restored);
a slop bowl with a puce decoration in the interior;
Five cups and saucers, the cups with ear-shaped handles and puce decoration to the inside, and
an extra saucer
