A Ludwigsburg bacchantes group
Circa 1760, marked with a double underglaze blue C on the underside of the hollow base
Modelled by Johann Christian Wilhelm Beyer, with a languid nude nymph lying on a striped garment before an obelisk, her head resting on the right arm of a naked crouching faun with goat's ears, hooves and a small goat's tail, her left arm raised in a gesture of love towards the faun's head, her right arm lazily outstretched and holding a bunch of fruit in her hand, a little naked faun with goat's ears and hooves sleeps in the nymph's lap, the background with a white obelisk decorated on four sides with gilt musical trophies suspended on draped bands of purple, on a square two-tiered base, the long rockwork base applied with naturalistic moss (chipped)
