A lacquer suzuribako (writing box)
the cover decorated with a pinetree on a beach in gold hiramaki-e and foil, sail boats on the sea in gold aokin and silver togidashi-e, the interior with bamboo in gold togidsashi-e fitted with an inkstone, two dull gold lacquer brushes and a brass suiteki (water dropper) in the form of a seated monk with an oi (back pack) -- 9½in. (24.1cm) wide, 19th/early 20th Century, (cover with one corner cracked, minor rubbing to edges).
