A lacquer suzuribako
the cover decorated in tsuishu and silver, gold and coloured takamaki-e with pine and plum before a silver moon among nashiji clouds, the interior with five courtiers resting by the Tatsuta River with ample trees and rocks on the opposite bank, the interior fitted tray similarly decorated, with an inkstone, a kidney-shaped suiteki (water-dropper) decorated in gilt copper, shibuichi and shakudo with a profusion of cherry blossom, and another water dropper in the form of a miniature flower-vase in lacquer imitating bronze -- 8.7/8in. (22.5cm) wide, 19th Century, (minor rubbing to corners).
