A Napoleon III gilt-brass table regulator with perpetual calendar and equation of time
Achille Brocot, No. 2778; retailed by J.W. Benson
The arched case on moulded base with bevelled glasses to the front and rear doors, the dial signed J.W.Benson, London in the recessed white enamel centre with visible Brocot jewelled escapement and enamelled rolling moonphase, the outer annular Roman white enamel chapter ring with blued steel hands, subsidiary white enamel dials below indicating; day of week, date, month with the zodiac sign, time of sunrise and of sunset and the equation of time in a curved sector below, the whole arrangement within a gilt mask finely engraved with scrolling foliage on a hatched background, the movement with four back-pinned pillars and twin going barrels, the pendulum regulation atop the arched plates, strike on bell secured to the backplates numbered 2778, trip-linkage to the calendar movement below similarily numbered 2778 and with the stamp for Achille Brocot within a star
