Lot Essay

The spindle-lyre trestles relate to a pattern in the 1818 Estimate Sketch Book of Gillows of London and Lancaster executed for Ferguson, Whitesides & Co., who traded from Gillow's Oxford Street premises under their own name (G. Willis, Classic English Furniture, London 1974).
