The gilt brass movement with gut fusee, steel two armed balance wheel with verge escapement and no hairspring, floral decorated cock and foot pinned to the top plate, steel worm set-up with blued steel mounts and silver disc numbered 1 to 6, tapered and pierced decorative pillars, the gilt floral decorated dial plate with raised silver dial, Roman chapter ring and floral decoration to the centre, single blued steel hand, in gilt mounted crystal case in the form of a chrysanthemum patera, seven-part hinge to the front cover and turned finials top and bottom with pendant ring, movement signed
48 x 30 mm.

Lot Essay

Edward East (1602-1697) was one of the most eminent of the early English watchmakers. He was a founder of the Clockmaker's Company in 1631, became a Master in 1645, was watchmaker to Charles I and Charles II, with his residence in Pall Mall and by 1635 in Fleet Street.
