The gilt brass movement with pierced and faceted tulip pillars, pierced and engraved cock and foot to the edge of the top plate, secured by one blued steel screw, verge escapement with three-armed steel balance and early hairspring, chain fusee, the silver champleve dial with Roman numerals, inner quarter hour ring with half hour diamond divisions, floral design to the centre, fine blued steel hour hand, in plain inner case with hinged split bezel, later pendant, casemaker's mark SB surmounted by a crown, the leather covered outer case profusely decorated with silver pin work in the form of tulips and other foliage, movement signed

Lot Essay

Henry Jones, London, was a famous early maker who supplied clocks and watches to King Charles II and established a fine reputation. Apprenticed in 1654 to Edward East and free of the Clockmaker's Company in 1663, he became Master in 1691 and died in 1695.
