CELSUS, Angelo. Decisiones Sacrae Rotae Romanae Coram. Rome: Typographia Reverendae Camerae Apost., 1668.
2° (390 x 260mm). Engraved allegorical title vignette by Georg Vidman with arms of the dedicatee, Pope Clement IX. (Some browning, occasionally heavy, and spotting, mildew at lower margin of final 4 quires, lower margins of last 3 leaves replaced.) Contemporary Roman red morocco gilt, BOUND FOR CARDINAL GIACOMO ROSPIGLIOSI, with his arms in octagonal cartouche at centre, within large panel with shaped compartments and arched frame, vase with flower at corners, gilt spine, lettered in second compartment, gilt edges (some staining, repairs at corners and joints). Provenance: Cardinal Giacomo Rospigliosi (d.1684, binding).
Bound for the nephew of the dedicatee. In the same year he became Pope, Clement IX (Giulio Rospigliosi, 1667-69) created his nephew Giacomo Rospigliosi cardinal. The volume appears to be the work of a shop other than that of Andreoli, who frequently worked for Clement IX (see lot 171); Foot mentions two other non-Andreoli-bound books belonging to Giacomo Rospigliosi (Davis Gift, p.332, n.53).
