(3 leaves defective, about 30 leaves with repaired tears, 5 with slight loss, 17 leaves towards end with outer margin renewed, stained, soiled.) FIRST EDITION OF THIS RECENSION, AND ONE OF ONLY SIX SURVIVING COPIES. All but one of the copies recorded in the Gesamtkatalog is imperfect, no doubt testament to the popularity of a well-illustrated edition in the vernacular of an entertaining and exciting tale. The woodcuts are those designed for the first edition in German, printed by Bämler in 1474. This recension combines sections of an abbreviated version with the full text. The obvious redundancies are explained to the reader, 'das du alles vornen klärer findest'. Owing to its rarity, it has not been possible to compare it with other copies to determine which leaves are lacking; the majority, as expected, appear to be from the beginning and end. H 5516; GW 7237; Schramm IV, p.25; Schreiber 4135.
Special notice
No VAT will be charged on the hammer price, but VAT at 17.5% will be added to the buyer's premium which is invoiced on a VAT inclusive basis.
