(Very lightly browned.) 17th-century French tan panelled morocco gilt, sides filigree stamps and narrow rolls, laurel wreath enclosing tooled presentation 'Ex dono D. Claudii Tisserand 1655', a crown above and an 'L' below, French royal arms at top of panel and arms of Chalon-sur-Saone at bottom, spine richly tooled, gilt edges, marbled pastedowns (later spine labels, minor repairs at edges). Provenance: Claude Tisserand, vicar general of the abbey of St.-Pierre de Chalon;(presentation inscription and binding to) Jean Blondeau (student at the college of Chalon-sur-Saone, recipient of the prize for rhetoric in 1655).
