Titles with woodcut border showing the King in council at head, and with Grafton's device supported by two cherubs below [McKerrow & Ferguson 67]. Criblé and historiated initials, woodcut compartment at end of volume II. With final blank. (Title to vol. I with repaired hole at upper margin touching on border and affecting 2 letters on verso, upper margin of title also with closed tear through left-hand corner of border, following leaf with closed tear at upper margin, B6 of the table repaired at outer margin, a few other repairs to margins, some marginal soiling and occasional creases.) 19th-century gilt-panelled maroon morocco by C. Lewis with the binder's morocco ticket, gilt edges (upper cover slightly scuffed). Provenance: Holford Library (bookseller's pencil note); John Burns (signature on front blank) dated 1928.
ENLARGED EDITION of a work first printed in 1516. Various sources were worked into Fabyan's Concordance of Chronicles, a compilation extending from the arrival of Brutus in England to the death of Richard III. Fabyan was sheriff of London in 1493, and the Chronicles, which are brought up to the end of Queen Mary's reign in this edition, are of particular importance in regard to the history of London.
