Brown morocco by Rivière, spine gilt-lettered, gilt turn-ins, gilt edges. Provenance: Bernard Quaritch (collation note in pencil on rear pastedown); John Burns (signature, dated October 1925, on front endpaper, sold Sotheby's 14 March, 1944, lot 187, to Thorp for £23).
Second edition. The first was printed by John Rastell in 1529. William Tyndale responded with An Answere vnto Sir Thomas Mores Dialoge (Antwerp, 1531), More then replying with The Confutacyon of Tyndales Answere (London, 1532). In this copy, as in others, the date of the privilege at the end has been altered from 1531 to May 1530 by the erasure of the 'i.' Gibson More 54; STC 18085.
