MORE, Thomas, Sir. (1478-1535). The Debellacyon of Salem and Bizance. London: W[illiam] Rastell, 1533.
2 parts, 8° (157 x 130mm). Black letter. Title with woodcut border [McKerrow and Ferguson 27], woodcut historiated initials. (Washed, C8 in facsimile, preliminaries with slight discolouration at upper corners, a4 with crease marks to corners and short tear at upper margin, final leaves slightly discoloured.) FIRST EDITION. More took issue with Christopher St. German's Treatise concerning the division between the Spirituality and the Temporality (c. 1532) by publishing The Apologye, a work written in April 1533. When St. German in turn replied to More with Salem and Bizance, More countered with the present work, written in October that year. This copy has C8 in probable facsimile and, like the Bradley Martin copy, lacks the rare bifolium 'Syr Thomas More Knyght to the chrysten reader,' found at the end of the Bodleian copy. Gibson 70; STC 18081.
