3 works in one volume, FINELY BOUND IN CONTEMPORARY GILT-TOOLED CRIMSON MOROCCO, double fillet and cable rool border with repeated flower tools along sides enclosing an onlaid central lozenge in black, the onlay tooled with flowers and birds, and with the bird tool repeated around the stepped edges, spine in six panels with raised bands, olive morocco lettering-piece in one, the rest with repeated floral ornament, gilt edges (slight tarnishing and discolouration to covers, upper cover slightly bowed). Provenance: George Simon, Earl of Harcourt (armorial bookplate); Maggs Catalogue 845, 1957, no. 138, price £58.
Second edition of the first work, and first edition of the two other tracts by Peters, described on the spine of this attractive binding as 'PETERS'S AGRICULT. VOL. I II III.' The Rational Farmer, which is dedicated to the Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce, first appeared with a Newport imprint in 1770. Winter Riches was dedicated to the Marquis of Rockingham, and the final tract to the Duke of Leinster. The illustrations feature the Norfolk Plough and the Lomax Plough which Peters improved.
