2 volumes, 8° (218 x 140mm). Half-titles. Frontispieces, 7 folding maps. A Cosway-style binding in later red morocco gilt by Bayntun (Riviere), the upper cover of volume I with inset hand-coloured oval portrait miniature of Napoleon, signed 'René', the miniature surrounded by a single gilt fillet, a wreath of laurel and an imperial crown, upper cover of volume II blocked in gilt with the imperial arms of Napoleon, the lower covers with blocked portraits within oval frames of the young Napoleon [volume I] and Napoleon in later years [volume II], each cover with a gilt fillet and strapwork outer border with Napoleonic devices at each corner, gilt turn-ins, marbled-paper endleaves, gilt edges.
