A Cosway-style binding in light brown morocco gilt by Riviere and Son for Henry Sotheran, upper cover with inset original rectangular portrait miniature of Jonson by Miss C.B. Currie on ivory, the miniature surrounded with gilt design of stylised scrolling foliage and flower-heads, all within an outer border of quadruple fillets, the lower cover with similar gilt decorated outer border, the spine in six compartments with raised bands, lettered in the second and third, the others with repeat decoration of foliage and flower-heads, gilt turn-ins, watered-silk endleaves, top edge gilt, the others uncut, lettered in gilt on fore-edges of covers 'Cosway binding invented by J.H. Stonehouse'. Limited edition of 530 copies, this one of 480 copies on hand-made paper. An original 'Cosway ' binding signed by Stonehouse and Currie. The 'limitation' leaf reads 'This is No. 943 of the Cosway Bindings invented by J.H. Stonehouse, with miniatures on Ivory by Miss Currie. Signed J.H. Stonehouse Inventor. C.B. Currie Artist'.
