A Cosway-style binding in near-contemporary blue morocco gilt by Bayntun (Rivière), upper cover with inset original oval miniature of Shakespeare, the miniature surrounded by a gilt-tooled border of dots, circles and broken lines, all within an outer border with elaborate semi-stylised cornerpieces of roses and foliage and small dots, linked by a triple-fillet, the lower cover with a similar but simplified outer border with a central shaped arabesque incorporating foliage and rose flower-heads, the spine in six compartments with raised bands, lettered in the second, the others with a repeat design of foliage rose flower-head and dots, gilt turn-ins, marbled-paper endleaves, gilt edges, by Bayntun (Riviere) of Bath.
