Original 19/20 parts bound in 2 volumes, 8° (221 x 140mm). Letterpress half-title and title, [A]1-2, followed by [A]3-8 of first edition in book form. Etched frontispiece by and after Hablot Knight Browne in each volume [first state with 'Phiz fecit' lettered around tablet and second state with 'Phiz del.' to left of tablet], etched additional titles by and after Browne in each volume [first state with 'VELLER' on signboard, dated 1837 and second state with 'WELLER' on signboard, dated 1837], 32 hand-coloured etched plates after Thomas Onwhyn and 'Samuel Weller', 43 etched plates by and after Robert Seymour (7), Robert William Buss (2) and Browne (34), with the later states bound in with them, and the 2 suppressed Buss plates. Crushed chestnut morocco by Tregaskis, titled in gilt in the spines and dated at the foot, gilt blue morocco doublures, foliate cornerpieces, red watered silk endleaves, top edges gilt, most original wrappers and some advertisements bound in at the end.
