4 volumes extended to 8, 8° (218 x 135mm). Additional titles specially printed in red and black. EXTRA-ILLUSTRATED with 150 engraved, etched, aquatint, and mezzotint prints, a few hand-coloured or colour-printed, some in proof, finished and coloured states. (Occasional spotting.) Late 19th- early 20th-century green morocco gilt by Sotheran & Co., the covers with a broad border of interlacing rose brambles, the leaves and stems in gilt, the flowers in red and cream morocco inlays, the spines gilt in 6 compartments, titled in 2, the other compartments decorated with gilt and inlaid red and cream roses, broad turn-ins gilt and similarly decorated with red and cream inlaid roses, crimson watered-silk doublures and endleaves, gilt edges (a few light scuff marks, spines somewhat faded).

A FINELY-BOUND SET, with additional plates from 18th- and 19th-century editions of Tom Jones. (8)
