The set bound in blue, red, green, and tan crushed morocco gilt by Sangorski & Sutcliffe, the panelled covers with central gilt pictorial tools after Shepard's illustrations, surrounded by smaller character-tools interspersed with gilt ornaments, the panel formed by a single gilt fillet within a gilt waved line with floral corner-pieces, double gilt fillet border, roll-tooled gilt turn-ins, the spines gilt in 6 compartments divided by raised bands, titled in 2 and dated at the foot, the other compartments decorated with gilt character tools within gilt frames, gilt edges (slight offsetting from turn-ins onto free-endpapers, spines lightly faded).
