A French kingwood and ormolu-mounted bureau plat, 19th century
In the early Louis XV style, the rectangular top inset with a panel of tooled leather within a moulded brass border with shell foliate clasps to the corners, the arched apron with central recessed drawer centred by a mask flanked by two drawers to either side, with pierced foliate ornament and foliate handles and cabochon key plates, the reverse with similar decoration and dummy drawers, the sides applied with bearded masks with lions heads, on cabriole legs with trailing foliate and C-scroll ornament to shells, palms and terminating in foliate sabots
