A Scottish Basket-Hilted Backsword
First half of the 18th Century
With slender tapering blade (cutting edge chipped) double-edged towards the point and with shallow single fuller on each side of the forte incised with running wolf mark and stamped with incomplete 'Andrea Ferara' signature, iron hilt of fluted bars of rectangular section involving notched panels pierced with circles and heart-shaped designs, rear quillon terminating in a flat scroll, compressed conical pommel cut with converging flutes and with later domed rectangular tang button, and later leather-covered grip (some patination throughout)
