A Scottish Basket-Hilted Broadsword
Second quarter of the 18th Century and later
With tapering blade (worn and pitted, edges chipped) stamped with small crosses and 'sickle' marks and cut with three narrow fullers on each side of the ricasso, the central one with later (?) 'Andrea Ferara' signature, iron hilt with guard (loose) of narrow bars involving S's (perhaps for Stirling) and notched panels pierced with circles and stemmed triangles, scrolled rear quillon, flattened conical pommel incised with four vertical flutes and with later threaded tang button, natural staghorn grip, and leather-lined red cloth liner (leather defective)
